If you don't know where that autosave folder is located it can be found int he OPTIONS dialog box (Files tab > Automatic Save File Location). You should have not opened the drawing, but rather go directly to your autosave folder, find the SV$ file with the drawing name prefix and change the file to a DWG file. You've SUCCESSFULLY opened the file and whatever SV$ file was there was now overwritten with the current drawing. The panics sets in and you frantically go and open the file to see what you've lost. Then another one is created at whatever increment you've told AutoCAD to autosave (default is 10 minutes). So the moment you open a drawing an autosave file is created for that drawing. The autosave file is generated and overwritten when a drawing is SUCCESSFULLY opened. One must remember how the autosave works.

The autosave (SV$) file is worthless at this point.
